As an independent design agency, we’ve been working for a number of years in close partnership with Diem, providing clients with design solutions featuring David’s superb photographs. Sometimes we art direct but often we send him off with a brief, secure in the knowledge that he will never disappoint us. Particularly refreshing is David’s ability to apply new approaches to old scenarios, whether on location or in the studio. One of our favourite memories of his creativity at work happened when on location for our client Vintage Roots, the specialist organic wine importers. David disappeared to his car, came back with a large-format pinhole camera and proceeded to calculate an eight-minute exposure, resulting in the most amazing, idiosyncratic shot of a bottle of fine wine against a dramatic sky. It certainly looked very strong on the cover of The Independent’s Information Supplement.
